THE ROUTE
Cannonball heads west for an unforgettable two-day adventure through some of Ireland’s most breathtaking scenery. Beginning at The Galmont, the route takes in iconic coastal roads, mountain passes, and charming towns before an overnight stay at the luxurious Lodge at Ashford. Day two with a quick visit to the world-famous Kylemore Abbey followed by a rooftop lunch overlooking Westport Harbour, and more spectacular driving routes, all before returning to The Lodge at Ashford for a final night of celebration.
Drivers will experience highlights such as the Sky Road in Clifden, the wild beauty of Killary Harbour, the Doolough Valley, and even a cinematic stop at Pat Cohan’s Gastro Pub, famously featured in The Quiet Man. With Croagh Patrick standing proudly on the horizon, this Cannonball Overland 4X4 Adventure promises a perfect mix of spirited driving, iconic locations, and luxury hospitality.
STARTLINE: THE GALMONT HOTEL, CO. GALWAY
The Overland 4×4 Adventure begins at The Galmont Hotel in Galway. After morning registration and briefing, our convoy of 4x4s rolls out, ready to take on a two-day journey through some of Ireland’s most rugged and spectacular landscapes.
LUNCH STOP: CLIFDEN STATION HOUSE HOTEL, CO. GALWAY
Our first stop is the Clifden Station House Hotel, where a hearty lunch awaits. This is the gateway to Connemara, and from here the route takes us onto the legendary Sky Road — a highlight for any overland driver, with sweeping Atlantic views and winding coastal tracks
SCENIC HIGHLIGHTS: Sky Road, Kylemore Abbey, Killary Harbour, Leenaun
The afternoon drive captures the essence of the west. We pass the fairytale Kylemore Abbey, skirt the dramatic Killary Harbour, Ireland’s only fjord, and roll into Leenaun, surrounded by mountains and water. These rugged landscapes are exactly what the Overland 4×4 Adventure is all about.
OVERNIGHT: THE LODGE AT ASHFORD, CO. MAYO
The day concludes at The Lodge at Ashford. Nestled within the Ashford Castle estate, it’s the perfect place to relax, dine, and share stories from the trail after a day of discovery.
STARTLINE: THE LODGE AT ASHFORD, CO. MAYO
After a hearty breakfast, the convoy gathers again outside The Lodge. Engines rumble to life as we set off on the second stage of our Overland journey.
LUNCH STOP: Westport Coast Hotel, CO. MAYO
From here we push on to Westport, where lunch is served in the new rooftop restaurant at the Westport Coast Hotel. With panoramic views over Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick standing tall in the distance, it’s a memorable place to recharge mid-journey.
SCENIC HIGHLIGHTS: Doolough Valley, Croagh Patrick, Pat Cohan’s Gastro Pub
The afternoon drive is a showcase of raw beauty: the haunting Doolough Valley, the spiritual presence of Croagh Patrick, and a stop at Pat Cohan’s Gastro Pub in Cong, a piece of Irish cinema history from The Quiet Man.
OVERNIGHT: THE LODGE AT ASHFORD, CO. MAYO
We return once more to The Lodge at Ashford, where a final evening of dining and relaxation brings the Overland 4×4 Adventure to a close. Two days of rugged trails, epic scenery, and camaraderie.
